About the Role
POSITION SUMMARY
The Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor provides professional outpatient counseling and treatment services for individuals with alcohol and substance use disorders within Copper Queen Community Hospital’s outpatient practice and affiliated rural health clinics. This role integrates behavioral health care with primary care, specialty care, and psychiatric services to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered treatment. The counselor will be an integral member of an interdisciplinary team that includes psychiatric nurse practitioners, mental health counselors, primary care providers, and specialists including our hepatologist.
Key Responsibilities
• Conduct biopsychosocial assessments, diagnosis, and individualized treatment planning for patients with alcohol and substance use disorders.
• Provide evidence-based individual, group, and family counseling interventions tailored to patient needs.
• Deliver relapse prevention, motivation enhancement, and co-occurring disorder treatment strategies.
• Collaborate routinely with hepatology, primary care, psychiatry, nursing, and other clinical team members to coordinate care plans and support integrated care delivery.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation compliant with regulatory, payer, and hospital standards.
• Participate in case consultation, team meetings, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Engage in community outreach and education regarding substance use disorder prevention and resources.
Qualifications
Current and unrestricted professional license as one of the following (meeting Rural Health Clinic eligible provider criteria for Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement):
– Licensed Clinical Psychologist (PhD, PsyD)
– Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
– Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or equivalent state-recognized professional counseling license (e.g., Licensed Professional Counselor)
Previous experience in substance use disorder counseling and co-occurring treatment strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary clinical environment.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and documentation skills.
Employment Status
This position may be offered on a full-time or part-time basis depending on program needs and candidate availability.
